Tamerlane

Named after one of the infamous
butchers of history– Tamerlane,
who built pyramids of human skulls,

his nihilist namesake in Boston,
leaves a lethal orange cloud
of shrapnel, bone, muscle and grief.

No media I’ve seen
made the connection.
So will this new butcher
be lost to history.

Silence Hunter

Silence.

It is as elusive
as a snow leopard
or a mongoose.

Finding the velvety ease
of a truly quiet moment is like finding
an Indian paintbrush flower
growing in the prairie

and the explosion of red orange color
vibrates the molecules of emotion,
setting them wandering across
the horizon looking for ghost dancers.

Spring in Portland

Showers to drown in,
barbecuing
in a downpour,

and once in a while,
just when you’ve had enough,
a double rainbow!

The Balloon of the Mind by W. B. Yeats

Hands, do what you’re bid:
Bring the balloon of the mind
That bellies and drags in the wind
Into its narrow shed.
